Frisco Residents: Do Not Shoot Walmart Delivery Drones | Safety and the Law

Updated: Oct 21

Dear Frisco Residents,

As we continue to see new technologies shaping the future of our city, it’s important to stay informed and aware of the changes happening in our skies. You may have noticed Walmart's delivery drones flying around our neighborhoods as part of a broader effort to enhance convenience and provide faster service. While this innovation brings exciting opportunities, it also presents new challenges and responsibilities.

Recently, an unfortunate incident occurred in Florida, where a resident shot down a Walmart delivery drone. The individual, believing the drone was invading their privacy, decided to take matters into their own hands by discharging a firearm. This action, however, led to serious legal consequences, including charges for criminal mischief and shooting at an aircraft—a felony under federal law (The Star), (DroneDJ). This situation serves as a critical reminder: no matter how we feel about these drones, taking illegal actions will result in serious penalties.
