RIP Brenda Meany

Dec 2, 1968 — November 4th, 2024


Brenda Sue Meany, 55, of Frisco, TX died Monday, November 4th, 2024, at Medical City, Plano, in Plano, TX, after a brief illness.


Brenda was born on December 2nd, 1968, in Bridgeton, NJ; daughter of the late Freda "Pat" Lou Surgeon (Cunningham) and the Late James Surgeon.


A graduate of Salem High School in Salem, NJ, Brenda obtained an undergraduate degree from Rutgers University, Camden, and graduate certificates in elementary special education from both Rutgers University, New Brunswick and Rowan University. As a noted educator working with the children all of whom she loved, Brenda spent 15 years working in New Jersey for the Woodlynne School District and 11 years in Frisco, Texas, working mostly at the Starwood Kumon center. "Ms. Brenda" was well known by the children for the gifts and prizes she would award (mostly stickers and erasers) for work well done. Brenda was an avid reader consuming a book a week on average, a lover of a good library, and was passionate about travel to destinations from coast to coast.


The family that she loved surviving Brenda include her son, Lance Meany of Frisco, TX, longtime partner Peter DeNagy of Frisco, TX, brother Franklin "Bud" (Pam) Cunningham and their four children of Piney, WV and sister Margret Phillips of New Jersey and her two children. Her extended family includes numerous first and second cousins along with the correlating nieces and nephews from her six aunts and uncles all of whom have predeceased her.


At her family's request, there will be no immediate services. There will be a Celebration of Brenda's life scheduled in the Spring of 2025 at a location in New Jersey yet to be determined.


Interment in the Cunningham Family Cemetery in Piney, West Virgina will be at the convenience of the family.
